Simon's Cat fan art

If you have read this blog from the beginning, you might recall my love of Simon's Cat, an animated series featuring Simon's Cat whom is always up to no good in his quest for moar foooood. Simon's Cat has appeared in videos, games, comic strips, and books. He is freaking awesome. The creator, Simon Tofield, started Simon's Cat with a video called "Cat Man Do" somewhere around 2008 and it blew up from there.

I'm a huge fangirl and as such, I like to doodle Simon's Cat still frames from time to time. Well, the other day, I found some awesome knee high pink faux-chucks on clearance at Clare's. I couldn't pass them up even though they are pink. In fact, I bought 4 pairs of them- one for me, one for E, one for L, and one for the cousin staying with us. Let's be real- no one turns down knee high faux-chucks when they were as cheap as I found them. Seriously.

So when I got these things home, I knew I'd be decorating them. My cousin painted a braided chain of multicolored hearts on her's. L painted bows, skulls, and stripes. E painted stars, stripes, bows, and paint splatters. I didn't want to do that- I wanted a high concept that would challenge me and my very poor painting skills. That's when I came up with the idea to use Simon's Cat! Off to Google I went to find still frames that I wanted to use for my boots.

I painted the familiar logo on the tongue of each boot. I don't plan to lace them all the way up anyways so that worked out well. Then, on onE boot, I painted Simon's kitten in a teacup on the bottom and Simon's cat with a bat on the top of that panel. On the other boot, I painted Simon's cat trying to convince a birdy that he is the birdhouse. I think they came out beautifully. I have some complaints but since these are only for me, I won't list them. I'm very happy with the way they came out. :)

Friday Five: Things My Family Does When the Power Goes Out

Our power went out last weekend due to storms. It was out from about 6pm until 4am. My family, for whatever reason, lose all threads of common thought processes and immediately rush into borderline mass hysteria. This is what each of my family members did as soon as (or later, a little after sunset) the power went out.

  1. Scrambles for candles all through the house, cusses about being out of lamp oil (Mom)
  2. Digs out the generator, cusses because it is always low on gas (Dad)
  3. Flips on the light switch in every room thinking one of them will come on, actually asks why the light won't work (Sister 1)
  4. Asks “when is the power going to come on” constantly, actually assumes I can tell them an answer (Sister 2)
  5. Calls and suggests a cookout in the middle of the night because he is bored with no tv (Brother)
*sigh* Thankfully, I had a fully charged Harvey ready to go so I turned on some music and played World of CryptoPics for about an hour and a half until my battery got low. Then I turned off my cell and went to bed. The rain did not continue through the night so I wasn't lulled to sleep by the tap-tap-tap on the roof but at least I got my nightly nonogram done.

Thursday Thought: Humor

This week saw the passing of another April Fool's Day. With that in mind, today's Thursday Thought is about humor.

Laughter is the best medicine. It really is.

Laughter has many benefits. Here is an article from WebMD that list some of the benefits of laughter:

  • Increased blood flow throughout the body.
  • Boosted immune system.
  • Lowering/regulating blood sugar levels.
  • Helps relax the body and increases the likelihood of a more peaceful sleep.

I don't know about you but the last one is a huge benefit to me. I don't sleep enough as it is and I certainly never feel like I can relax. The article suggests watching a comedy of some kind for 30 minutes a day will provide incredible laughter related benefits. So as much as I hate to say it (because I hate television), maybe try watching a 30 minute sitcom. Or kick back and check out a comedy movie or some late night stand-up. Read a funny memoir or a kid's joke book. Go to a comedy club or find local shows in your area for amateur nights. Try to find humor in your day however you can. A little silliness is apparently good for you! I'm off to go catch up on Season 3 of Glee since I haven't been able to watch all season long. Hey, it is a sitcom... at least it is to me. ;)

Saturday Salute: Downtime Is Downright Funny!

Downtime is downright funny! See these pictures found around the interwebs for proof! Note: None of these photos are mine. All are easily found on message boards and websites with a Google search.

Edit: 8/15/2012 Images removed. I don't want to be sued. Google "funny military photos" etc. for pictures.

Monday Machination: Plot Twists Famous Movies Should Have Had

Ah... Cracked.com has come through for me today. I found this last night while browsing through their photoshop articles. Chainsaws, peepholes, unexpected dinosaurs, and worm holes are just a few of the first extras in some iconic movie scenes. Which one is your favorite? Mine are #14 and #8. #2 creeped me out beyond repair though. Also, to see the actual shop on #3, watch the window for a couple seconds. Have a great week everyone!

Wednesday Weird: Ninja Cow

Residents of Plattsmouth, Nebraska have been tormented by a cow, nicknamed "Ninja Cow" at some point, for months. They think the cow escaped from a cattle truck in mid-September. The townsfolk tried everything to catch her... bribing her with biscuits and gravy, using recording cow sounds to lure her in, etc. Nothing worked.

Several Facebook pages have popped up supporting Ninja Cow. There are even talks of an annual Ninja Cow Day celebration!

The police chief, Steve Rathman, refused to shoot the cow. They went as far as to bring in a contractor to catch her. Eventually, animal control officer Sue Baker called up some ranch hands John and Jessica Vallery. They found the cow's newborn calf and used it as bait. They captured her temporarily but the broke the gate down. After that, Rathman gave a kill order. A cow loose in a residential area poses a great risk to human life, so I can understand his order when their options were exhausted.

Finally a couple cowboys caught Ninja Cow. She is happily residing at the farm of one of the men that captured her. Unfortunately, her calf was sold to another farmer while she eluded capture. The calf would have died without care, so while that is sad, its better than the baby died of starvation. City animal control just doesn't have the resources to care for a cow.

I'm very glad this story has a happy ending. I'm sure the residents of Plattsmouth are happy to not clean cow pies out of their yards, off the streets, and from the tennis court any longer. Yuck!

Sunday Scene: Steve Gets Pwnd By a Priest

I love The Ringer. It is an incredibly funny movie from 2005 about a guy (Johnny Noxville of Jackass fame) that tries to fix the Special Olympics in order to pay off a huge accumulation of debt. There are some amazing one liners and features many actors with disabilities. I didn't think I would like the movie... I assumed it was making fun of adults with disabilities, but it ended up being very uplifting and completely hilarious. Link here.

A few of my favorite one liners from the movie:

Monday Mood: Embarrassment

Ah. A Monday Mood everyone should relate to easily: embarrassment. We all do stupid things that end up leaving us red faced and scrambling to cover our tracks. We've done something dumb and people saw and/or found out about it. We shed a slight layer of dignity and then moved on.
Read after the jump for a funny story.

Hope for a Better Future

I know that time is ultimately progressive and that as a nation, the US is slowly catching up and starting to make the kind of progress other parts of the world segued into years ago. But there is still so much hatred spewed in the media and on the streets by ignorant people. Between the Westboro Baptist Church, the Teaparty, and other extreme right-wing nuts, it is no wonder that the US is lagging behind in LGBTQ civil rights. However, we as a nation have moved progressively forward over the past few years. Minds are changing, mostly in a good way. It might be a painfully slow change, but its happening.

Now, I usually avoid talking about religion in any forum. However, something was shared with me today that is just too good not to share. "What Would Jesus Do If Invited to a Gay Wedding"

This blog post was published today by John Shore on LGBTQNation. I'm not sure if it originated on LGBTQNation or if it was reblogged from another source. Anyways, John poses the famous "what would Jesus do" slogan toward invitations to a few weddings by gay friends. What follows are several verse quotes from the books Mathew and Mark, inspection of what exactly Jesus had to say about homosexuality, and some tongue-in-cheek humor. The last 5 paragraphs of the post are incredible, in my opinion.

From the article, we learn this: You have no right to judge others, and when you do, it goes directly against what Jesus preached about in the Bible. Love your neighbor as you love yourself, because that is the greatest and most fundamentally spiritual thing you can do.

Both of those are things that Christians on this side of the issue have been preaching. These are amazing progressive people that have figured it out.

The Christians on the other side continue to spew their hate and manipulate doctrine to their support their beliefs.

I am definitely on the pro side of this issue, but I am guilty of judging others just as bad as the right-wing. Because I judge the right-wing. I roll my eyes when they are on the television. I call them all sorts of names in public and private. I honestly think they are the ones that will end up in Hell, and have told a few of them as much. So yeah, I am judging them. And I shouldn't. I shouldn't bring myself down to their level. They make it so easy to do so, but what's good for the gander is good for the goose. Or as I like to say, what's right for the apple is good for the orange. I'm going to try to stop judging the crazy, homophobic, intolerant, bigoted, self-centered, egotistical, back sliding, deluded, hatemongers. Really, I'm trying.

I'm going to end this post with my newest blog thing, my own personal signature!

Saturday Solicitation: Good Omens

This month's Saturday Solicitations are going to be for some older books that I have loved for a long time. Today's is for Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophesies of Agnes Nutter, Witch was published in 1990 in a collaborative effort between two of the (in my opinion) biggest names in the Fantasy Genre. Pratchett is most famously known as the author of the Discworld series, while Gaiman wrote The Sandman comics, American Gods, and Anansi Boys. Good Omens was Gaiman's first novel.

Annie Re-Done

One of my favorite musicals is Annie and I was in the mood for a rendition of "Tomorrow" from the movie. I found some great audio and video clips of the song from the movie and from various folks around the web singing. I found one that had me literally laughing myself out of my computer chair. This kid is super cute and makes me really miss my days in drama club. Check it out:
