Tuesday Tales: Doctor Know-all

Today's Tuesday Tale is Doctor Know-all

A peasant, Crabbe, saw the food a doctor ate and asked the physician how he could become a doctor too. The doctor told him to buy an ABC book with a rooster on the front, sell his ox and cart for doctor's equipment and clothing, and then advertise himself as "Doctor Know-all."

His first task was to find stolen money for a nobleman. Crabbe and his wife went to dinner with the nobleman and the peasant was delighted by course after course being served, counting them aloud. The servants, who were also the thieves, thought he was saying they were the thieves as he counted each one out in turn. A fourth servant brought in a tray of crabs that was covered and the nobleman challenged "Doctor Know-all" to guess what was on the tray. The peasant said "Poor Crabbe!" but the nobleman only heard "Crab!" and was impressed.

The servants secretly attempted to bribe the peasant with money and additional rewards if he did not tell the nobleman of their crime. He told the nobleman that he needed to check his book, and he began looking for the rooster picture. He could not find it and said "I know you are in there." A fifth servant was hiding in the stove and thought "Doctor Know-all" had found him so he ran away. Crabbe then returned the money to the nobleman and was rewarded handsomely.

Okay, so I did better discerning some meaning in this Tale. Doctor Know-all is about coincidental events leading to fortunate rewards, or as we say "being in the right place at the right time." That happens a lot more than people think I wager. I know it has happened to me many times. I am 1:2 now.

Love is love, no matter the back story. <3 DS
