Monday Mood: Embarrassment

Ah. A Monday Mood everyone should relate to easily: embarrassment. We all do stupid things that end up leaving us red faced and scrambling to cover our tracks. We've done something dumb and people saw and/or found out about it. We shed a slight layer of dignity and then moved on.
Read after the jump for a funny story.

When I was in Junior High, I was very active in my school's drama club. We were doing a murder mystery that required the "outcast" character to break into our circle of trust... literally. This freshman boy had to break through the circle between me and a senior girl, basically by wrenching me aside before he jumped in the middle and had a victory dance. Rehearsal after rehearsal, when he pulled me aside, he somehow managed to snap my bra strap every single time. After our last dress rehearsal, I couldn't take it anymore. I told him that if he snapped my bra strap one. more. time., I was going to hit him square in the nuts in front of everyone. Naturally, guys try to avoid getting hit there so he modified his grip... but we didn't practice it.
That night, in front of about 300 people, he pulled me out of the way using his new technique. Only, me being all of 4' at the time, he didn't realize his strength and sent me FLYING across the stage. Really, I went a good 6 feet back through the air. Another actor, a senior I believe, caught me before I landed on a pile of folding chairs, but the damage was done. While I was flying across the stage, I watched in almost slow motion horror as my skirt flew wildly around my waist, flashing my panties to the entire audience. Quelle horreur!
When the senior sat me on my feet, my first instinct was to run crying from the stage and then hunt that freshman down for a good solid kick in the nuts. But I didn't. I ran back to my mark on the other side of the stage, grabbed the senior girl's hand and cheered for our freshman outcast. I'm sure I could have fried an egg on my face but I was an actress. The show had to go on, and on it went. The freshman apologized so many times that night at the after party. And the next night, the sophomore boy on my other side held me good and tight when we went through that part of the play.
The moral of the story is that embarrassing things happen. A lot. The trick to it is to learn to have some humor about yourself. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're going to end up crying and that just isn't any fun. Be a duck. Let it roll of your back.

Love is love, no matter the back story. <3 DS

"Quack."

Another great story. You should be a writer.

That should be a scene in a movie. You're quite the trooper keeping your cool like that. Bravo!!

@Steven, I always loved the Mighty Ducks movies at that age and seem to recall something in the movies about how everything rolls off a Duck. Science stuff. lol I have definitely considered taking up writing as a hobby. ;)

@Alberto, I'm sure it has been a scene in a movie at some point. Maybe not the specifics but the humiliation would remain the same. But thank you. I was a focused kid back then. I wonder where all that went as I got older. And if I would keep my cool today like I did back then. :D
